Zone A
Area subject to inundation by the base flood, also known as the 100-year flood (shown as Special Flood Hazard Area on a community’s Flood Insurance Rate Map), except for the area designated as coastal V zone. There are seven categories of A Zones, all which are within the SFHA: A: where no base flood elevations are provided because detailed hydraulic analyses were not performed; A#: Numbered A Zones (e.g., A7 or A14), where an older FIRM shows a base flood elevation; AE: where base flood elevations are provided based on newer FIRMs; AO: where shallow sheet flow or ponding would occur during base flood (flood depths are shown); AH: where shallow flooding would occur during base flood (base flood elevations are shown).
