Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA)
Area that would be flooded by the base (100-year) flood. The SFHA is also sometimes referred to as the base floodplain, 100-year floodplain, or 1-percent annual chance floodplain. The area may be designated as Zone A on a community’s flood map. The SFHA is separated into zones depending on the level of hazard. A community must regulate its SFHA under the requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program.
